41) Questions and Answers : Preferences : Client core values (Message 200)

By looking at the task name, you'll notice something like:
dnetc_r72_1304995456_8_477_0

The interesting part is: _477_
this means that work units count for 477 stats units on distributed.net stats.
Normally it's around 448.

If you change core, you'll see a different speed in those 2 tasks.
the _good_ simply means the faster.
By using 2 tasks with 477 stats, if one core is faster, it will take less time to complete.

That would be great if the BOINC benchmark (in the BOINC manager) would do a benchmark for existing GPUs too.

good catch.
Sadly, Teemu will have to answer to this one.

I also noticed, i've few inconclusive too:

Also, what is inconclusive work really means?
Another bug with the validator?

Post:
Different cores simply means different algorithms used by d.net client to maximize computation with your current hardware.

By maximizing computations means crunching more keys/sec.
If you look at your task, you'll see, how fast your tasks were completed.
The higher speed, the better you're, cause it will take less time to complete a work unit.

example:
http://moowrap.net/result.php?resultid=75750
you'll see:
[May 10 08:49:57 UTC] RC5-72: Summary: 7 packets (448.00 stats units)
                      0.00:11:09.51 - [2,873.96 Mkeys/s]

which means, that tasks 2873960 keys/sec.

By default, having it to -1 should be already maximized.
Some users notices if they changed it to some other values maximized their computation.

The names aren't really important.

yes, Teemu made a change in the validation (regarding this problem) for version 1.01.
If you guys see that same problem with 1.01, that's definitly a problem.

Maybe to fully detach and re-attach to that project?

If both are not working, we'll investigate more to fix that problem for ya.

50) Message boards : Wish list : platforms supported (Message 175)
Posted 8 May 2011 by Clod Patry
Post:
hi,
we are proud to support all GPUs.

Any ATI and nVidia cards are supported on windows and Linux (32 or 64 bits).
Is there any platform that you wanted to be supported?

Teemu and I were discussing about not supporting CPUs, since the work generated on CPUs is "too low" vs GPUs.
An i7 2600K get like 8 Millions keys/sec while an ATI 4870 does about 550 millions keys/sec.

We prefer working on GPU platforms.

So, do you think we should support CPUs too?

54) Questions and Answers : Preferences : Problem with Distributed.net ID preference (Message 160)
Posted 8 May 2011 by Clod Patry
Post:
I've set the distributed.net ID few days ago.
It was working fine on almost all the tasks done in windows.

but in my first Linux unit, i've noticed, the d.net's ID seems to be ignored.

See the task:
http://moowrap.net/result.php?resultid=57446
(you can see)
==========================================================================
* The client is not configured with your email address (distributed.net ID)
* Work done cannot be credited until it is set. Please run 'dnetc -config'
* ==========================================================================

Could it be a bug in the new Linux client?

Post:
hi,
I am curently testing the client under Ubuntu 11.04 64 bits.

I'd like to know if it's normal that percentage isn't growing at constant rate?
After 5 seconds, it's already at 14.814%, but remain at this percentage for like 5 minutes, it increases at 30.120%, then at 43.373%, etc.

That would be great if the progress would increase at constant rate.

I wonder if there is some boinc politics regarding credits?

I know with dnetc, that machine was doing 600 000+ in credits with dnetc (which is 10X the current credit).

Some other person feel the credits should be higher too?
58) Questions and Answers : Preferences : questions regarding credits (Message 54)
Posted 3 May 2011 by Clod Patry
Post:
hi,
after running it almost 24 hours, the credits sum is much lower then I expected.
Teemu: can you describe in details how credits are given?

I see:
[May 03 00:24:36 UTC] RC5-72: 4 packets (256.00 stats units) are in out.r72
results in 414.81

[May 02 23:27:09 UTC] RC5-72: 4 packets (254.00 stats units) are in out.r72
results in 411.57

which seems to be: 0.617149 par stats units.

Is is mainly based on CPU time?

All other GPU projects is giving much more credits. I saw other users complaining about this "problem". Do you consider a little increase?
