It seems to be. I'll try to take a look and hopefully fix it this weekend.

I started a new day job at the start of Feb and that's eating away my free time. :(

Thanks Teemu

Received the first "Huge" WUs

I had a Sapphire HD6950 OCd to 840 MHz that gave me +- 300k / day running 24/7 Using Sapphire's TRIXXS

* before the bad fragmented WUs that started early in Dec,

Running @ 840 I used build in utility to regulate the temp. to be below 70 deg
Fan speed @ between 55 to 65% with 98% GPU usage

Then V1.03 started

I upp'ed the GPU performance with the app-info running 2x WUs to get better run times & recover my RAC because I was getting only the "normal" 192 WUs

With the same fan settings the GPU temp jumped to 78deg +
Fan speed @ 80% +

R.I.P

The one cooling fan ( this card got 2 fans) said "bye for now" after only 4 months!

Supplier said I abused it and don't want to replace it :(

$$$$ down the drain

My points are going down a bit

What can I do to get back to "huge" wu's

Same here
I tried to change the app_info <flops> parameter as Teemu suggested but with no joy

A single HD5950 running 2 wus averages about 10 standard (192) wu's / hour
I also noticed that there are more fragmented wus (many takes 3x times longer)in the 192 range compared to the "huge"768 range I used to receive before the v1.03 update.

Any news on the user selecting what wu size option Teemu?

Even with the increased GPU usage & power consumption my RAC is still dropping :(

It could be the flops setting in the app-info file that affects this

This is the value in the app-info for for the 6950 running duel tasks

<flops>1157115231469.729200</flops>

Any suggestion what it should be?

I might also tweak the actual size of these work as I aim for one task to take around 1-2h to crunch.

A project pref to set the size preference is not out of the question either. Except that pref probably needs to be host specific, somehow..

After 6 days I'm still receiving normal (192s) on the 6950 & 6850.
Could it be something in the app-info file causing this.
They take about 15 min each average where a normal non fragmented task takes about 8 to 10 minutes each when running 2 tasks on a single GPU. I noticed some very bad ones running up to 38 min
With the large tasks (768s) I get much better performance

It will be appreciated if you can make this option available when you get a break.
Thanks again for the support we all received in the past

Overnight the results on the HD5850 are run times @ 1200 seconds (was 2,300) and credit 1750, was @6.5K to 7.0K.

Weider and weirder.

My experience so far

I looked at the run time I’m getting with a say”192” task on a HD6950 running 2 WU together using the app-info.
It varies between 625 & more than double 1435 seconds. All of then gave 1766 credits
This makes it impossible to fine-tune a box by looking at the run times
.
The priority change from 4 to 9 should affect only those running the CPU hungry ATI 11.7 up if the box is running CPU apps on all the cores.
I’m running 11.4 it shows a peak usage of 0.1 CPU x 2 in task manager.
I did try 11.8 & the 11.9 but with zero performance increase. All I got was the CPU usage jumping to 1 causing the GPU to wait for CPU time.

I read somewhere that this bug should be fixed when they release 12.1

The modifications Teemu made stopped the HTTP error with 0.5 for 2 tasks
OCd to 840 Mhz core the GPUs are running cool below 70deg @ 99% usage with memory clock dropped to 700 Mhz
The graphs showed a nice upswing in performance on a single 6950 in one box & a 5850 in another running 2 WUs together.

But now Moo sees it as slower cards due to the increased run-time & start sending me "tiny" 190s WUs.
Result - performance lower than before :(
Back to square one

Tks Teemu
In the meantime I have "no new tasks " on while running 2 WUs together

Thanx Zydor!

That did the thing
I testing it on a XP box with a single HD5950
With <count>0.5</count> it's running 2 WUs using 99% GPU power
but
HTTP error when Moo request new tasks
now the funny part:
When I stop boinc mgr & change it 1.0 count, restart boinc then it reports the completed tasks without an error & get new work.
I stopped/start changing the setting twice today to get new work
All the WUs passed without an error
Run times / WU is now between 58 and 65 minutes when it is running 2 together
giving me about the same time of 29 - 32 min / WU with a single WU running
I used to get that before the bad WUs started early in Dec.

One change I plan to do in the appinfo is to change the max cpu back to 1 cause
I'm running CAL 11.4 that does not hog the cpu

It's running now for 24 hrs on a XP pro box with a HD5850
CPU down to 0.1 & no errors but no performance increase compared to 11.4

Thanks Teemu!
It helps to get back what we lost the past 2 weeks

The funny bit is:

even though my personal credits roughly doubled the last days

Strange that before he/she's credits doubled @ Moo 90% of the credits came from PG & Collatz & a tiny 0.1% from WCG

Let's respect other's choice where to crunch before pointing a finger

All ATI drivers 11.5 up hogs the CPU & use a full CPU core to feed the GPU

I'm running a 5850 & a 6950 both OCd to 860 but the Mem clock dropped to 650 with driver 11.4.
The CPU usage is down to 1%
If I use any driver from 11.6 & up the CPU usage jumps to 24% on a quad
This is nearly a full CPU core of the quad

I get very few failures just a lot of inconsistent run-times with the latest batch of WUs

Even that it is mid summer here with very little aircon & the heavy OC the GPU temps are below 78c deg

I told Teemu about this because DNETC was running fine with 11.5 up
He replied that he dont understand this cause Moo & DNETC was on the same software supplied by Dist Net

It seems that there is somewhere a big communication gap

Hi Teemu

well these will hopefully pass soon

It's now almost 10 days & no changes
Like I said before this affects different cards in different ways
My slower HD4870 runs almost the same times as before with the shorter WUs
On the other side the HD5850 still runs 30% longer.
I can do better @ Collatz

You have to do something to fix this because we are losing a lot of credits

Surely this is not a nice Xmas present

The increase in time vary from card to card.
On my HD6950 it is about 10 - 15% longer but on the older HD5850 that is normally 5% slower than the 6950 the time increased to about 30 - 35%.
Both cards are optimized to run on the fastest GPU core with a free CPU core available on both PCs
My personal RAC dropped from 835k (on the 10th) to currently 775k & is still falling rapidly
I checked my failed WUs & found only 4 so this can't be the reason

Update to catalyst 11.9... that one fixed the high cpu load issue for me.

I tried 11.99 on 3 PCs in different locations - but no improvement - still 25% usage. My GPU's run cool @ 65 - 70 deg C

and what core they use on your system to achieve that

Normally the default core setting -1 for core 0 is the fastest for me.
I even experimented to force the normally slowest cores 1 & 2 but with no effect on the CPU usage

I think the answer is at ATI/AMD & find out what they changed in release 11.6 >

My HD5850 is OC'd to GPU 855MHz / Mem 1180MHz
Another thing I forgot to mention is the ATI/AMD's CAL version
I found with Win 32 bit anything over CAL 11.5 runs at a very high CPU (25%) where it should run at only 2%
I use CAL 11.4 on all my PCs
This happens only here at Moo!
DNETC is OK with the later CAL releases

Keep in mind WU size vary - look at the last 5 digets of the WU name

Try to up the Processor Usage priority from 4 to 9 in "dnetc-1.00.ini" (in the Moo folder)
CPU hogging projects starve Moo and it is not getting CPU power to do it's GPU thing
Also look for screen savers etc
Look at my PC "Floor" with an OC'd 5850
It's doing about 300k / day
Hope it helps
