I'm suddenly having problems running wus on an AMD R9 380. The wu starts running and suddenly Moo crashes the card. I've checked the card and it runs fine on all other projects. Even reloaded the driver as I initially thought that maybe there had been an update I hadn't noticed (always use driver version 15.200.1046.0 WHQL) or maybe the driver had become corrupt. Reset the project as well but no go. So I removed Moo from the BOINC Manager and restarted, then added it again and restarted. Still the same!! Have there been any changes that weren't announced? I run an AMD HD 7950 on Moo on another machine and there are no problems there. Anyone have any advice for me? Thanks. |

I'm suddenly having problems running wus on an AMD R9 380. The wu starts running and suddenly Moo crashes the card. Try upgrading to the newest driver, they are much faster and work. |

I've tried the driver before the one I was using and no go either. I'm gonna try the latest, I found that the card didn't seem to like the new drivers when I got it so I left them alone. Have you a similar card and have you had similar probs that have been resolved by using the latest? |

Ok, tried the newest drivers and Moo still crashes my card and hence my machine. I can't think of anything else to do. Anyone help? |

Well what do you know .. Although I had changed nothing and the crashes came out of the blue when I increased the power using Wattman the crashes seem to have stopped. Touch wood this is the solution but certainly strange that it should suddenly require more oomph .. |

Well what do you know .. I have no clue why that would work, but I'm glad it did!! |

For being one of the smallest GPU apps, I have found that it is the one that drives the graphics card the hardest out of all of the Boinc projects that use the GPU. When it runs, the temp climbs high, the fans speed up, and the power usage goes to the max. So having to increase the power limit in wattman does not surprise me to get it stable. So if you want to test any overclock settings on your GPU, run a Moo task. If it doesn't fail, the GPU will handle any other project or game you wish to play. |

Try the 15.12 drivers (15.300.something under LINUX as I recall) - the version you are using is the 15.7 which wasn't quite as stable on your generation of card. Same advice if you're running Windows - the only later Windows drivers that were worth spit on older R9 series cards were in the 16.9 to 16.10 range, and those have NOTHING to offer an older card unless you also game on the machine, while being noticeably more bloated for similar performance. You may also be overclocking the core a bit too much, the Dnet.c client is notorious for how hard it pushes the core of a GPU (while being VERY VERY light on memory usage). WAY back in the day, it was often debated if the Dnet.c client or the Prime95 (GIMPS) client was a better stress test. |

I used to run the 15.12 drivers but with this instability I updated to the latest driver from AMD directly. I'm also not overclocking at all. This made it possible to use Wattman to 'boost' the power and make it stable. As far as I'm concerned that's the only benefit. |

Back to the same problems again .. Constant crashes!! I have no problems on any other project with this card. Gone back to the original driver and still crashes so suspended and sent any excess WUs back. |

I was about to share a link for a post where someone found an issue with the Intel OpenCL drive causing their R9 380 not to work on Moo. Which also turned out to be the issues preventing my R9390X from working on Moo, and only Moo. However that post was actually from you... so I guess it wouldn't be very helpful to you now. I am using driver 15.12 which crashes every so often, but it fairs better than any 16.x driver on my system. |

Oddly enough, I HAVE to undervolt on my Vega RX 56 to get the best keyrates - and lower temps. Seems like the "default" GPU voltage on those things is set WAY high. Not sure how long I'm going to leave the thing "lent" to my cryptocoin mining effort, as the only thing it's worth mining with is Monero and you HAVE to run Win10 and the blockchain driver to get decent hashrate out of it on that (the LINUX version of that driver flat out doesn't WORK with Vega, in fact AMD has had the FE out for MONTHS and it STILL doesn't work under LINUX due to their borked drivers situation on the LINUX side). On the RC5-72/Dnet/Moo/BOINC side, it's about a 7.5ish GKey/sec card stock and can easily be tweeked to hit 9 reliably - that's a bit more than a PAIR of RX series cards or my old-but-reliable R9 cards, while the power consumption is a little less than a pair of my RX 470 cards. It also works with 520 under OpenCL as MooWrapper provides, no need to "kludge" it like for a GTX 1080 ti to get it's good hashrate. |
