Today it is the King of Swedens birthday.
We are more celebrating the last day of April. Valborg is the name in our calendar of the year. The funny name in Swedish is "Valborgmässoafton". A kind of translation could be "the evening when you celebrate Valborg" by lit fireworks, sing some songs welcoming the spring, make a speech to the spring and stuff like that. Just have a good time. Tomorrow it is the 1th of May and the winter should be gone, but you can never be quite sure, there have been setbacks before. Happy "Valborgmässoafton" everyone. By the way WINNING!

I hope it comes true this year!!!
Have you been watching tv lately and the series the 'Vikings'? They mention Valborg, I think, and alot of other names from Viking times, It is NOT a historical show, it is about a group of people growing up in the time of the Vikings and how they go around plundering and how it and everything else affects their daily lives, including how they interact with their King and other groups. It is NOT for children and DOES have violence in it, for instance a couple of weeks ago they described what a 'blood eagle' was, how to do it and what it meant.

Kind of like the snake pit and some of the other creative ways they found, they always seemed to find more and more inventive ways to prove how tough they were.
I don't think I would have made a good Viking!

Oh and just because of your holiday I went out and bought 6 tomato plants yesterday! I should put them in their planters on my deck by this weekend. I only buy cherry tomato plants as I like eating them like snacks. They did NOT have the Caribbean Red hot pepper plant I was looking for so I will try one or two more places locally then just buy them online. I put the hot pepper plant right at the top of the steps so the squirrels see it first and after trying it won't move on to the tomatoes. The Caribbean Red hot pepper is VERY hot, as in around 500K scovill units. A Jalapeno is in the 50k range while a Ghost pepper is closer to one million. I choose the Caribbean Red because it looks like a cherry tomato and the squirrels can't tell the difference until they bite the hot pepper.

Happy I am not a squirrel. I like hot peppers and chilli. It is to early to plant tomatoes here in sweden unless you have a special gardenhouse that have some kind heating. You need to reach june before you put the plants outdoor or they will have frostbite.

At 60+ days growing time that would mean not eating them until late August or even September, by then mine are winding down and I will have eaten well over 200 of the little things! Since I have 6 plants I can be picky and not eat any that are damaged, and then the birds seem to eat a TON of them. The rain barrel on my deck has been full for several weeks already waiting for me put them in the planters.

I used to like to eat hot peppers but the 'spicy out' part bothers me now so I stopped. I too LOVE chili and make it all the time, from a mix, using beer as my liquid, and adding different kinds of meats depending on what is in my freezer at the time. I never have the kinds of meat you might have though, just hamburger, pork, sausage of different kinds, ie beef, pork or even turkey. Sometimes I even used stew beef, but only when it is on sale, as I don't need the expensive stuff in chili!! I have even put freezer burned meat in there before as it is 'just' chili. I always brown the meat prior to putting in the chili pot and use beer as the liquid for that too. I use the cheaper beer that I could drink if I run out of the kind I like to drink. I buy the cooking beer in bottles as they don't add any aluminum can taste to the beer if they sit for a while waiting for me to cook with them.

WINNING!!!
