Mikey,

To rephrase my question, What shall I go for if I choose to work only with MOO for the rig with the Nvidia card?

By the way, Bernt is the user I normally use supporting Team.se. They need some power to beat #1 in Sweden. Bernt J is the new user I created for the new rig and to support team Boinc@Valdemarsvik.

WINNING!

I checked the Top Participants and as expected MOST are using AMD cards, BUT the top Nvidia card is a 650 Ti and is doing units in 1,739.19 gpu seconds, 9.92 cpu seconds, and getting 6,584.00 credits. I think your 560 Ti would only be just a little slower.

Thanks Mikey,

Good answers as always. Now I know the direction to go for the WINNING!
Bernt

Thanks, check my signature today, it is Sunday so I make it come thru and you can see how I am doing overall. The 7970 is currently up to almost 600K rac per day right now on its own, and it is STILL going up. BUT it IS on a project that pays VERY VERY well!!!

WINNING!!!

I used to drive an old 1941 Willys Jeep I bought and got running, it would go ANYWHERE and do ANYTHING, until I cracked the block mid winter one year! I had it so deep in marshland water was coming in over the door sills and it was STILL pulling me thru! I got scared that if I kept going I could get stuck and NEVER get it out, so I turned around. The Jeep NEVER did get scared!! I even took it on the interstate hiway at close to 70mph and the little original 4 cylinder engine in it was screaming like a banshee, I put 5:38 gears in it and it was topped out! I couldn't lock it up, no doors or top, so I put an electric fuel pump on it and then put a round security key in to turn the power off to it when I got out. You would be surprised but I could find parts for it EVERYWHERE! I replaced the leaf springs, shocks, lots of stuff and it even passed inspection before it broke and I sold it. I even put on a pair of those KC Daylighter lights on it but could only run them a few minutes or the battery would die, the alternator just couldn't power them on its own! But they sure lit up my dads neighborhood when I turned them on!!

WINNING!!!

Now we are heading for Easter and because of that event I´m sure WINNING!
Now I have three rigs up and running. Two with MOO and one with Einstein. The Einstein rig is very slow, but it really doesn´t matter.

I have one rig standing in the basement with Win98 SE2.
Shall I rebuild it to something faster or throw it away?
I´m struggling with the question.

Personally if I had the money it would be a no brainer, BUT cost is the determining factor for me. IF you have to buy an OS too then that plus the parts cost could make it not very cost effective for a LONG time! In the US I can get an AMD 6300 6 core cpu, motherboard and 16gb of ram for about 200 dollars. With that and then reusing the parts from the old pc it is cost effective to replace an old single or even dual core pc. BUT having to buy an OS too will add approximately another 150 dollars to that, making it much less cost effective. If it were me and I had to buy an OS, I haven't in a while now, I would use Ubuntu Linux.

WINNING!!!
