Hi, I just released v1.01 of our wrapper application. In addition to previous 32-bit Windows versions there's now versions for 64-bit Linux. Both Stream and CUDA are available for both. Some of the major changes in this release: * Overactive hang detection code fixed and it now takes into account relative speed of the used card. This should fix many failures and even slowness seen by users especially on CUDA platform. * Limited retries (no checkpoint or premature exit) to ten (10) so that there's no chance for an endless loop. * Added support for setting core used by the client. I'll add a preference for this soon. Allows advanced users to set best performing core based on their knowledge or client benchmarks. * There's now a default Distributed.net ID used if one is not specified in preferences. For now it's simply "u_ * And some other minor improvements and fixes around the code.

Teemu .... a 101 question :) Re User ID in the above news post. Do you literally mean a User ID as in name (ie for me Zydor), or do you mean an email address. I currently have a DNet ID "zydor@dnetc.net". (I noted preferences defaulted DNet ID to the BOINC account mail address, which for the moment I changed to the dnetc one below) Just a little confused in my own mind as to what should be put there - DNet address for the account, for me being "zydor@dnetc.net" or "zydor" Regards Zy |

Re User ID in the above news post. Do you literally mean a User ID as in name (ie for me Zydor), or do you mean an email address. Not name, it's a number. Like for you wrapper default would be u_1586@moowrap.net now. This would be used if you didn't specify anything in the preference (never visited, or possibly blanked the pref). I currently have a DNet ID "Zydor". Distributed.net ID is an email address. If you put simply "Zydor" then it won't work and you will get an internal Distributed.net Client default (that ends with a @distributed.net). The Client will reject anything that doesn't validate as an email address. On the website the default for that preference is indeed BOINC account mail address. I might change that, though. What you put there depends on what you want to see in the Distributed.net stats site, if anything. :) Or where they should contact you if they want for some reason (like if you find the key). If you don't care about that part, you can use something like zydor@moowrap.net, which most likely will be the default eventually. (For those that only care about BOINC end of things.) Hope this clears your mind. If not, feel free to ask for clarifications! :) -w |

Ahhh - understood re number. One quick follow up in that case ... and I have a feeling this will be in the minds of many ex(if I could use that phrase for now) BOINC DNetC crunchers who have DNetc accounts. When they were created at DNetc, the account names were defaulted to "<boinc_name>@dnetc.net". So I ended up with "zydor@dnetc.net" as my Distributed.Net account name, and all my results appended to that account name. Is it feasible to access that account from this new Project {without going through mega-hoops and loops, you have your hands full enough at moment ... ). EG .... and no doubt this will not be practical .... murphys law :) .... putting (for me) zydor@dnetc.net in that field, and the server configured to send the results there (as well as BOINCStats Sites). I suspect there are hundreds, if not thousands of BOINC Crunchers in the same boat. Personally my main focus is BOINC, so if its not easily achieveable, thats fine. If it is, then that would make many ex-DNetc crunchers happy, and save many more DNetc accounts being created. Regards Zy |

distributed.net doesn't discriminate on where the points come from, it will assign all credit to whatever you choose to enter in your preferences. as long as it is a properly formatted email address. if the ID already exists, it will just add to that account, if the ID doesn't exist, it will create that account. |

Just for the record, for people like me less used to Dnetc ways, and to close this one off. Two things happened for me: 1. I used an alternate live email address in the preferences field (not the BOINC one), and some stats turned up at Distributed.net under that email address as the Dnet user ID. So if I had entered "myname@anyvalidaddress.co.uk". A Dnetc User ID would have been created as "myname@anyvalidaddress.co.uk", and DNetc work credited to that account. 2. I switched it to my dnetc account that they created by default under the previous BOINC dnetc Project <boinc_name>@dnetc.net. Looked tonight, and all my work here since entering that <boinc_name>@dnetc.net account label in the preferences field, has been credited to that old dnetc.net account. Done deal :) Thanks Teemu & Liuqyn for clearing it up - it did penetrate my skull in the end :) Regards Zy |
