I note that the HD6950 GPU is underutilized. I think you are using a too new version of the AMD software, back off to 11.9. |

Just confirming what you said already .... the 12.1 drivers are good to go if anyone contemplating a move away from the dubious ridden later 11.XX drivers. Murphy may surface, but, I dont think so as a general propostion. There will always be some issue somewhere, but 12.1 really does seem solid after a few days use, and I have not seen excessive bad press about it (given some gaming issues, but they are always ongoing) For BOINC they do seem fine .... give them a go. In this machine (i7-920) I initially had 2 x 4770's, and was getting great runtimes for Moo! WU's, especially compared to the other i7-920, which has 2 x 5850's ... that annoyed me terribly. I have since bought a 6950 and had it with 1 x 4770 in this machine and Moo WU's are taking around the 45 + minute mark, whereas the machine with the 5850's has dropped the WU finish time down to around 18 minutes - which is great !> So, I have removed the 4770 and am STILL getting the 45 - 48 minute runtimes per WU, which just does not sound good enough to me fo thi scard. Am righ tnow, downloading ATI 12.1 to see if that helps. Will also try later in switching back over to 2 x 4770's (I have 3 actually, and 3 x PCIe slots.. (try 3 ???) For gaming etc, the 6950 is OK, but I didn't buy it for that... I bought it for BOINCing and sadly, am pretty disappointed in it's performance so far - though I am sure there is something I can do to improve it's times. Have also just run benchmarks and set it to the "optimal" core.. will see what each ste does.. but in the interim, anyne else with a single 6950.. do you have your average runtime please ?? Thanks, Veebee |

What are the last 6 digits of the WU's your getting for each box? Edit: Looks like your getting The "HUGE" wu's on both boxes. 45 minute run time on non overclocked 6950 isn't that bad. |

I goes nicely in 8-9min to 98% then it takes over 20min to push it to 100%... |

I know this thread is a month old. I have had a HD 6850 for a few months now. Overclocked to 850mhz and the run times are twice as long as 6950 or even a 5870. Am i doing something wrong? 2 Apr 2012 | 21:06:52 UTC 3 Apr 2012 | 20:50:45 UTC Completed and validated 3,253.63 40.54 6,392.00 Distributed.net Client v1.03 (ati14) Just upgraded to Boinc 7.0 and running cata 12.3. My card didnt seem to like 12.2 and would freeze and crash my pc. Any advice would be appreciated. |

I too have a 6850 and they are just not as good as either of us had hoped! I also have some 5770's and some 5870's too and the 6850 is just better than the 5770's, but not by much! Here is one of my units: http://moowrap.net/result.php?resultid=10436257 The gpu runs in a dual core machine where the cpu is idle. I was running Poem on it but that was not good, so I am back to Moo but I am still using Boinc version 7.0.20 and I am running cata 11.9. |

OUCH..I just looked, still taking that long..My fastest rig, W764 CCC12.3 BM 6.12.34 HD5870 @800/700 cranked them out @30 min, HD6850...@45/52 min tops? There was some ATI bug around that effected some cards, but I would assume CCC12.0 and up fixed that? What is your gpu load? MSI afterBurnner might be able to kick up the gpu clk, cooling is needed! My HD6970 @ 950/700 runs 87% max load taking, still good, 28 min. I could run 2 wu w/app_info to get the most, but summer is here and I can only runn so long, but when it dose run it can get max utilization, I have not done that yet tho.. |

My problem is that is a sketchy pc to begin with, it is ALL recycled parts, except the gpu, and crashes fairly often. The gpu is running at 98% and the gpu temp is 67c according to gpu-Z. The numbers are stock at 775/1000. The OS is Win7 32 bit Ultimate with 4 gig of ram, which is maxed out. It also will NOT go to 64 bit as the cpu is just too old too. |

I have a gpu meter and its running at 100% almost always. 775mhz now. catalyst started crashing on me again so i had to shut it down and prevent it from running. No more over clocking. Temp is at 75 C. It must just be the card I guess. |

As for the oc'ing...gpu's are VERY sensitive to that. Some do just fine but lots of them end up returning nothing but junk units resulting in no credits. Some of that is based on the project too, PrimeGrid for example, mostly Nvidia cards, you can oc one area but not others. |

It wasnt that it couldn't handle the over clock. Catalyst kept crashing my pc. Can't over clock without Catalyst running |
