So it's not an OpenCL one.. *Perk* That would put the cat amongst the pigeons if they got it going on CAL via a standard AMD driver for 7970s, the beast would be unfettered and gallop along :) It'll be interesting to see what NVidia come up with, they lost their way for 4 years with the fermi 3XX and 4XX debacles - only pulled from the brink with 560/570/580, and seem to be getting back into their old hardware mode they used to have pre 2006. I have a suspicion they may well come up with the goods this time .... and they need to, else the consumer side will rapidly decline after the Fermi 3XX & 4XX debacles - one bitten, twice shy, thrice you die as they say :) Regards Zy |

Nice One - that'll be interesting having another mainstream app for the 7970, any idea what its written in etc ? I saw this on PrimeGrid about their problems running the 7970 and how sesef found the problem: "I've figured out what is wrong. 7970 have problems with multiple kernel execution (?) "checkCUDAErr(clWaitForEvents(1, &comp_done_event), "Waiting for computation to finish. (clWaitForEvents)");" in bottom of loop in check_ns function fix the problem, but it's increase CPU time, and it's about 14% slower. Here is compiled version of tpsieve which works on 7970: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1452459/tpsieve.zip I hope there is another way to fix it, or its just a bug in AMD drivers." http://www.primegrid.com/forum_thread.php?id=3921 |

OoooooO :) Well spotted ..... had a look, looks interesting. Will be good to see how that sits with the PrimeGrid Devs, they are a good bunch, theyll nibble that to death and get it going. Be interestiung to run it once the Devs give the go ahead with a PG cleared version. Things are starting to pick up now re 7970s as the problems are identified and software tweeked. Shouldnt be too long before we can unleash these things at full speed on a good number of Projects, at present they run on OpenCL apps - and even thats impressive, speeds are incredible for OpenCL even running NVidia OpenCL compiled apps. Usual story with new genration cards .... takes time :) Regards Zy |

OoooooO :) I was HOPING to get the conversations going between Projects so that the combined knowledge base could make things happen quicker! There is no way for me to know if that already happens in the background. |

There's a fair chat developed over on MW in their "7970 Dont Run" thread, due, I suspect, to the NVidia OpenCL app running there on 7970s, a steady flow of tidbits starting to appear in it from other Projects. Regards Zy |

Any updates on whether 7970's will work with Moo? I tried it today on my linux box with a 7970 and got computation errors a few times before I suspended the project. |

Does this apply to the 7950s as well? I've had to drop my AMDs off Moo! because one of the driver updates seems to have puked it as well, causing my previously working HD5870 to error. But my 7950 behaves the same way, or did last I tried, and pukes every WU. Any word on compatibility with the 12.x drivers as well as the HD7950? FWIW Collatz and MW both run fine with no special antics from me, though GPU usage is a bit disappointing (Collatz rarely gets above 75%). PG, last I tried, does the same thing Moo! does. HD7950 WU just run: http://moowrap.net/result.php?resultid=9833328 |

FYI, my Windows x64 Ultimate system is crashing using my 6970. Something has changed over the last few months as it's gotten worse. I'm having to drop Moo! altogether for now and using Collatz & YoYo with no problems. Moo! has been crashing within 30secs of application start. |

There must be some word by now? The 7000 series has been out at least 9 months. It sure would be big news if all radeon 7000 series cards & those to come are not supported here at moo. I think moo is the last project left that supports ATI to NOT have a working app. Come on fella's how many millions have been lost already. What about an optimized app? Anything??? |

Hi, Unfortunately, the D.Net devs are still having problems getting the new series cards to run properly. It was running for a while but then the driver got updated and things broke again. :( One problem might be that there's not that many ATI hackers amongst them. Last I heard there was one dev planning on working on the problem, but no other news from him yet. Is there lot of you that have upgraded their cards are now unable to participate here (but you would want to)? -w |

By all the threads around the different projects there must be, not to mention the silent masses. When done right the card can crunch some crazy numbers if optimised correctly. While PG is a bit disappointing on the 7970 at last check, but at least it works correctly just a little slowly. Milky way, Collatz & Poem are all working well, even setti with lunatics apps works well. DistRGen crunches like lightning & even the GPU Beta at WGC crunches at an amazing speed. You would think AMD would try & put a notch in there belt by developing it & marketing it the fastest cruncher out there? but I suppose a few million crunchers is not of interest to them. Anyway is there any hope of an opitimized app? Or is moo a no go zone for 7000 series owners. Anything at all? What is the suggestion for people buying new crunching rigs? What's considered the best AMD/Nvidia card to crunch moo ATM? Suggestions? |

Okay, I heard some good news about this a while ago. Upstream developers at the D.net project are hard at work getting OpenCL cores going, which should fix problems 7000-series cards are having due to the AMD dropping support for Stream. I don't have any definitive time table to give when new clients are ready. But until we release new applications with the newer client any new OpenCL-only cards will unfortunately not work here. Sorry. :( -w |
