Happy holidays to everyone. But im contrast to my predecessors I dislike Santa Teemus present.
IMHO it's an unfair advantage to increase the already high credits per wu for this project. The -restricted- comparatibility between projects suffers :( That's not a good present - even though my personal credits roughly doubled the last days. The credit whores already get very good credits from this project without tampering.

@Chris S,UBT - mickyb69,Bymark,Zydor,Crunch3rHappy holidays and Thanks to Santa Teemus.
Why we people are upset with reklov,he/she was referring to one's ownself.

reklov,

I wouldn't worry too much. It's a bonus to those who decided to use their computers over the holidays. Think of it as a nice gesture for those who decided to keep their PCs on during this time.

Seems a bit random.

Consider we long-time SETI crunchers who devote e.g., 5.34 hours CPU time per WU for a tiny 26.74 credits?

IMHO it's ... unfair ... The -restricted- comparatibility between projects suffers

Santa's demand could thusly create a Credit War between BOINC projects that nobody wants???

Personally, I'm glad to see that someone is up for rewarding the work done. Although I haven't been here quite a year, I'm just like everyone else - a person who is entitled to an opinion. Yeah, Yeah...opinions are like a specific body part...

What Teemu has done is rock the boat because of how much he values the work we do, versus the pittance of credit awarded by "other" projects.

If you don't like it...don't ANT. If you REALLY don't like it...don't let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya.

Just my $0.02....

Ray one thing you aren't seeing is that Moo recently had a HUGE problem that resulted in Teemu doing some quick work to fix, in the process every workunit, 90% of them anyway, started giving out 500 less credits PER WORKUNIT to each user! This 'present' we are all now getting is his way of saying 'thanks for sticking with me thru the problems'! As he has made it a Christmas Present it will probably expire in the near future, after he thinks he has given enough credits to make up for the lost credits. As far as comparing Moo credits to Seti credits, please do NOT go there..each project is using Boinc but that is it, no two projects are the same other than the underlying software they use. If you wish to argue about credits please take it to a new Thread, but I can tell you, from the past threads, it can evoke some VERY STRONG emotions and the name calling can get intense! Each point of view has its good and bad points making the subject an 'agree to disagree' topic.

I don't want that either. Santa Magic is not something that will last forever.

As for the other changes, I'm actually thinking I'll change the base credit level to 8 (instead of 9 as it is now). I'm changing this in the first place because I don't want to have fractions in this value (it was 8.5, which matched what Dnetc was using).

The fragmentation compensation for slow work (20% increase for now, might as well get decreased if I can figure out actual average loss) will stay around but it will not affect non-fragmented work, so as soon as our upsteam gets through the fragmented work areas to fresh work areas it will no longer factor in (until next time they resend non-returned work from old areas).

Was away for a few days & got a big surprise.
Thanks Teemu!
It helps to get back what we lost the past 2 weeks

The funny bit is:

even though my personal credits roughly doubled the last days

Strange that before he/she's credits doubled @ Moo 90% of the credits came from PG & Collatz & a tiny 0.1% from WCG

Let's respect other's choice where to crunch before pointing a finger

I think Teemu's reply was quite sensible, and I also endorse the point of view that Mikey has. Santa Magic will be gone shortly, and it will have been nice to have had it while it lasted.

The original Boinc intention with credit parity, was to try and ensure that projects were chosen on their scientific merit, not credits awarded. Those were the days when there weren't many projects, and people went credit chasing instead. Now it's most unlikely that you won't find a project where you can support the science.
I iz also got icons!

There are also SEVERAL projects with ulterior motives, I am NOT saying which and I have NO IDEA if this is one of them or not. The ones that sell their results are the ones I am speaking of, they have us do the work and then they profit off of them by selling the results to a 3rd party. Those would be motivated to give more credits than one that is say searching for the Tooth Fairy. Even pure Science Projects can have ulterior motives, there is BIG money in being the first to find a cure, or even a treatment, for this or that ailment! Finding a better beer recipe used to be a Boinc Project that is now long gone, if our pc's found the 'ideal' beer recipe does anyone really believe that it wouldn't then be marketed to the commercial beer makers for a profit? They would have been idiotic not to, running a Boinc Project is NOT cheap and can consume alot of your time and effort! Getting a little payback at some point seems reasonable to me, giving more credits to get more users so it can get there faster is human nature.
