Hi,

Thanks for notifying us! I believe you already saw that there are other people that report similar problem with client v6.13.12? I believe this to be a client bug at the moment but I'll still look into this.

Thanks for the update. I'll be moving to the Version 7 client shortly and will be able to compare behavior between the two releases at that point, as well.

UPDATE: Same results after upgrading to the 7.0.2 client. BTW, Windows clients at the 7.0.2 version also experience/report the same error.

UPDATE: I submitted the error documentation to David Anderson/BOINC via their Alpha email system and received the following response:

The project is running old server software,
which has a bug causing this problem.
Please tell the project admins that they need to
update their server software.

Hello,

Could you ask him what server revision has the fix he's talking about? We are already running revision 24660, which is almost the newest one and I can't see any relevant server side fixes in the SVN commit log.

Message 1792 - Posted: 17 Dec 2011, 19:42:46 UTC - in response to Message 1790.

Received this response from David Anderson at BOINC:

Jon:
Please forward this.
Actually the bug was in update_versions.
It created bad XML in the app_version table, such as:
<version_num>102</version_name>
So you need to fix this either by
- create new app_versions (e.g. version 1.03), or
- manually editing the XML field using mysql
I recommend the first option, less error-prone.

Hope this helps.

Message 1873 - Posted: 22 Dec 2011, 22:24:01 UTC

Hi,

Aha! That makes sense and I can see that error in our DB. I've now changed the entries so hopefully newer BOINC Clients work as soon as they get their metadata updated. (That might or might not require a project reset.)

Thank you, Jon Fox, for working as a proxy for this issue! :)
