200,000,000 CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And Mikey congrats on getting your 200,000,000 a few days ago as well, you have left me in your wake when you passed it. I KNEW you would make it, it was very close between you and I as to who would get there first though, a few new gpu's seem to have put me ahead finally. I actually have one more AMD 5870 to install this week, it will be replacing a 5770, so should double the output of that machine. Congrats Slayer and to all others as well. From me too!!! |

I have to buy ten Intel i7/2600 with double HD6990 top beat you guys. Actually if you would just start picking up older pc's and redoing them into Boinc only machines you could get there in very little time. MOST newer pc's come with pci-e slots, that means a gpu in each machine. Older machines cannot handle the newest gpu's, but even older gpu's can crunch just fine. John Clark even found some pci gpu's that crunch! I see pc's just laying out by the curb all the time as I drive around, I usually stop and pick them up and strip them for parts. But I also do it so the hard drives don't fall into the wrong hands and people find themselves in trouble with identity theft! The FIRST thing I do is wipe the hard drives with the program DBAN, it is hard drive nuker that wipes all data so it is not retrievable, but, once formatted, is still usable for me as a spare drive! If the pc is a dual core, or more, I then evaluate the pc to see if it is faster than one I already have or not, if it is the one I have gets replaced and the new one crunches! If not then the new one is stripped for parts and the rest is recycled. Back when I was working, 2 years ago now, I used to help a guy build pc's for the kids on Welfare, you know the kids that are removed from their parents and shuffled from place to place with nothing they can call their own, Foster kids! We used to build Linux machines for them and give them their own machine, ready to run so they can do their homework at HOME instead of at the library. Lots of the parts I picked up went to those machines. Doing the pc's was NOT my job, it was a volunteer thing that I got involved in because the other guy became my friend thru work and he was already involved in it. I became the builder and he was the tester and tweaker of the pc's, he no longer had to do both. |

Just passed 60M now. The problem with older machines is that a lot of them are only AGP, not PCIe. The fasted AGP card you can get is an ATI 3850, and they are getting very rare. When you go to many machines route, power bills start coming into the equation. I once ran a farm of 14 machines, 4 with AGP cards, I now run 8 with PCIe cards and my RAC is double, and the leccy bill halved. If I could afford some more 5850's I could shut down another 4 and still keep the same RAC, and save even more money. I iz also got icons! |

Solar-powered PCs is the way to go. Or maybe we can get subsidized by Obama's Wind Turbine legislation. |

Solar-powered PCs is the way to go. Or maybe we can get subsidized by Obama's Wind Turbine legislation. I KNOW you are kidding but I actually looked at solar powering my pc's and the problem is that each solar panel only puts out like 45 Watts, my new X6 with a single 5770 in it is using 300 to 320 Watts on a constant basis, that is WAAAAY too many panels to buy and setup, the payback would NEVER come! I live in a neighborhood so never looked at wind though. Hey Chris I just replaced a dual core pc with an AMD X6 based pc I built for about $400 and parts from the dual core. The X6 has 3 pci-e slots while the dual core only had 1, I am currently using 2 of the pci-e slots and probably won't use the 3rd as of right now. The machine is fast and the power usage, with 1 5770 in it, is similar to my old dual core!! I have also ordered another X6 to replace another dual core, so I should be screaming along soon!! I sold some old pc memory at a computer show to a vendor and got the money that way, I figured they were computer parts so I bought computer parts!! Chris and Slayer CONGRATULATIONS to both of you on your recent Milestones!! |

Hi Mikey, Hey Chris I just replaced a dual core pc with an AMD X6 based pc I built for about $400 and parts from the dual core. The X6 has 3 pci-e slots while the dual core only had 1, I am currently using 2 of the pci-e slots and probably won't use the 3rd as of right now. The machine is fast and the power usage, with 1 5770 in it, is similar to my old dual core!! Nice! But from what I have seen dual or triple PCIe boards can cause a lot of trouble in Crossfire or SLI mode. You have to mess about with dummy monitor plugs etc. Plus of course you have to have uprated PSU's to cope with it all. At the moment my cards are getting the following RAC. HD5850 - 334K HD4870 - 133K HD4850 - 116K HD4770 - 113K The 48XX and 58XX have 550W PSU, and the 4770 use OEM 300W PSU. In terms of value for money, the 4770 is a steal, and very over-clockable. But for just 50% more cost you get a 300% increase in performance with a 58XX series card. Provided you also factor in the cost of a better PSU. I iz also got icons! |

Hi Mikey, Oh I didn't think to put down which gpu's I had...I have: four 5870's, one 6850 and six 5770's all running right now. I also have several gpu's on the shelf that have no machines I can put them in. Right now I only have one machine with dual gpu's in it and I do not run it in SLI or Crossfire mode, each card is running as a stand alone in the machine and yes I do use a dummy monitor plug. Currently my overall RAC is about 2.2 million per day, that includes both cpu's and gpu's, but my gpu only rac is close to 2 million all by itself. When it works here is my stats page on Free_DC: http://stats.free-dc.org/stats.php?page=userbycpid&cpid=da0c795e81490ce47752d88cb0cbd5be Free-DC is down as I type this though. |

Good that we are back at normal WU´s. So I guess your RAC will be increasing too then shortly!! CONGRATULATIONS!! I myself purchased an Nvidia 560 ti that should be here today and will replace an older Nvidia 9800 GT in one machine. GpuGrid should get a nice bonus from that! |
