The 11.6 thread seemed to be useful in keeping it in one place, so started one for 11.7 released 27 Jul 2011.

The AMD Release Notes are:

Resolved Issues for the Windows 7 Operating System include

- All issues experienced with mouse cursor lag have been resolved
- Resolves system hangs seen in the AMD Catalyst 11.6 driver on specific HDMI and DP displays
- Log event (Event ID 62464) issues when playing video content have been resolved
- Bluray playback using PowerDVD 10 under High Performance mode no longer randomly displays a blank screen.
- Bluray playback using PowerDVD 10 under High Performance mode no longer randomly hangs.
- Some Divx format files no longer display video corruption using WinDVD.
- AVIVO Video Quality settings are now correctly applied to Flash Video Content.
- AMD SteadyVideo is now applied to Home Video clips when using WinDVD 10.
- Random screen corruption is no longer displayed when changing desktop themes.
- Chequerboard corruption is no longer displayed intermittently when playing DirectX 10 titles in a Crossfire configuration with Eyefinity enabled.
- Shogun II now renders the cinematics correctly when run in various Eyefinity configurations.
- Video playback now works correctly when Hardware acceleration is enabled with VLC Player version 1.1.9.
- 720P Divx video clips no longer display stuttering when played using Windows Media Center and Windows Media Player.
- Crossfire now functions correctly when playing Hamilton’s Great Adventure.
- Video corruption is no longer observed when when using the Forward slider on 720P Divx format video clips using Windows Media Player and Windows Media Center.
- PowerDVD now correctly handles 3D Bluray content.
- Portal 2 no longer displays flickering on water surface textures with Medium and Low Shader detail settings.
- Image stabilization now functions correctly when playing Divx content using Windows Media Player.
- Wraparound corruption is no longer displayed intermittently after exiting a 3D application.

Known issues under the Windows 7 operating system include:

- Star Wars Jedi Knight II / Jedi Academy may randomly crash on launch.
- Image rotation might not function correctly in Photoshop CS5.
- OpenGL acceleration might not be available in Photoshop CS5.
- High GPU speeds might be retained after exiting a 3D application.
- Crysis 2 may display random corruption when Crossfire is enabled and run in DirectX 9 mode
- Homefront may experience random crashes during gameplay.
- Crossfire may not perform as expected when playing Earthsim, Bad Company 2 and Metro 2003 under DirectX 11 mode.

I installed it on 2x5970 Crossfire, and 1x5850

Observations
Install fine on both. I deinstalled via control panel, rebooted, ran a registry check, installed, rebooted, ran registry check. In first time no worries with both.

The 5850 WU results reacted to the change. The CPU time(secs) now shows nearly the same as the GPU time(secs). Markedly different from showing (presumeably) the actual CPU time used when under 11.6. Thats a significant change as such, and for some reason the reporting mechanism for the WU reports differently under 11.7 than under 11.6.

Speed of crunching was a marked improvement for the 5850 (around plus 5%), very little change for the 2x5970 Crossfire.

Issues
None

I experienced the same with my 5850 when I switched from 11.6 to 11.8. But the bad thing is that Windows' task manager is showing each WU is really consuming this increased CPU time. So with the actual driver version every Moo! WU is consuming 1 GPU and 1 CPU - in contrast to the 0.05 CPU indicated by BOINC.

That's an issue for me because on my dual core every CPU WU is now running twice as long as before the driver change.

So it's back to 11.6 ...

Same here when I upgraded to 11.7 from 11.5 on a 6950

I'm running primaboinca on the cpu's & the Moo! gpu app was using 50% cpu
Back to 11.5

11.7 a BIG NO-NO

Hi,

Interesting, I'm seeing the same 100% on 11.7 with my lonely 5870 card. It didn't use to do this when everything was configured right (but I did use to have a 5970 here as well).

Did downgrading to v11.5 or 11.6 solve your CPU hogging problems? If so, driver version might also be a factor for these problems.

I can confirm that downgrading to 11.6 solved the issue for me.

Hi,

Thanks for letting me know that! Downgrading to 11.6 indeed fixed my GPU tasks using high-cpu. This high-cpu also affected a Pg task that run at the time.

It helps only on Win32 bit
Win 64 bit still use a very high cpu load on all releases

Has anyone consider to migrate to 11.8?

I did but I think I am going to go back to 11.6 or 11.6! My RAC stopped climbing and even dropped slightly IMMEDIATELY after upgrading. This could be due to longer crunching times, lower credits or the 'upgrade', but I am betting the 'upgrade' is the culprit.

Oh, I'm using Windows 7 x64 and downgrade to 11.6 did work for me while I saw high-CPU usage with 11.7 and 11.8 installs. I'm also using core #3, which can also affect CPU usage (and runtimes/system responsiveness as well).
