Problems running wus on AMD R9 380. Suddenly Moo crashes card.
(Message 7810)
Posted 22 Nov 2017 by HAL9000 Post: I was about to share a link for a post where someone found an issue with the Intel OpenCL drive causing their R9 380 not to work on Moo. Which also turned out to be the issues preventing my R9390X from working on Moo, and only Moo. However that post was actually from you... so I guess it wouldn't be very helpful to you now. I am using driver 15.12 which crashes every so often, but it fairs better than any 16.x driver on my system. |

Posted 1 Feb 2017 by HAL9000 Post: You could always try to download the newer version at distributed.net and use it instead. I'll have to give that a try sometimes to see if I can get my R9 390X to actually complete tasks without trashing them. |

Posted 5 May 2016 by HAL9000 Post: However, don't you believe it would be nicer to have applications working properly on all GPU's (i.e. without app_info etc for 7950,7970, R9, ...)rather than badges ? I don't think anyone has been minding the store for several months. |

Posted 23 Mar 2016 by HAL9000 Post: cant get it to work,so guess i really dont need it What could you not get to work? Doing a copy/post into notepad, saving the as app_info.xml in the project folder, and restarting BOINC should be all that is needed. The only reason I can think of as to why you might want to use app_info.xml is to increase the number of task on the GPU. However to do that you would really want to use app_config.xml instead. |

OpenCL won't download automatically for dual AMD GPU rig on Win 10, AMD16.3.1 driver
(Message 7040)
Posted 20 Mar 2016 by HAL9000 Post: So we really, really need to have the ability to specify our application preferences. The current Win 10 build with the new 16.3.1 drivers (well, any driver since launch) won't give me the OpenCL application to run. It just keeps throwing out Computation Errors all day (all week!) and keeps giving me only the Stream app. I asked about that back in June, http://moowrap.net/forum_thread.php?id=413#6592, but it doesn't look like it has happened yet. So you have to go with an app_info.xml until then. Also using Cat 15.7 or newer on my HD 6870 results in the OpenCL app not working. So I have to use the stream app for it. |

Posted 23 Feb 2016 by HAL9000 Post: Which driver are you using? I can see your OpenCL version is 1912.5 but that could be 15.11 or 15.12. With Cat 15.7.1 on my R9 390x I'm getting: [Feb 23 14:40:52 UTC] Unable to initialize OpenCL. Stream & OpenCL selectable for ATI?
(Message 6595)
Posted 17 Jun 2015 by HAL9000 Post: On my older notebook I'm only using the Radeon HD 6370m for crunching. Having run both the ati14 & opencl_ati_101 apps. I found the ati14 to be better for the system. As the extra CPU usage of the OpenCL app causes it to run just enough warmer to get to hot. So I would prefer to only run the ati14 app. <exclude_gpu> does have the function to exclude down to the app level <exclude_gpu> <url>project_URL</url> [<device_num>N</device_num>] [<type>NVIDIA|ATI|intel_gpu</type>] [<app>appname</app>] </exclude_gpu> So if they app names were something like dnetc_ati14 & dnetc_opencl_ati it would work. However I expected app_info was going to be the way to go. I just wasn't sure if someone had figured out something that wasn't clear to me. |

I found the ati14 to be better for the system. As the extra CPU usage of the OpenCL app causes it to run just enough warmer to get to hot. So I would prefer to only run the ati14 app. Not seeing any project options for this I was thinking <exclude_gpu> in the cc_config.xml. However it seems both apps look the same to BOINC. ======== Application versions ======== 1) ----------- application: dnetc version: 1.04 project: Moo! Wrapper 2) ----------- application: dnetc version: 1.04 project: Moo! Wrapper Is the only solution an app_info.xml? EDIT: The Average processing rate for the ati14 was higher until recently when it dropped suddenly & I started getting OpenCL tasks again. |
