Hi,

Thanks for letting me know that! Downgrading to 11.6 indeed fixed my GPU tasks using high-cpu. This high-cpu also affected a Pg task that run at the time.

-w

It helps only on Win32 bit
Win 64 bit still use a very high cpu load on all releases

I tried everything I can think of but with no effect
The DNETC app is still running at between 12 - 25% CPU
This is 2 cores on an i7 !

Teemu please help

The Dnetc project is not doing this & is running @ max 2%

Brent to test & find your best core do this:
Exit Boinc manager
From the run command type in:

"C:\Program Files\BOINC\Data\projects\moowrap.net\dnetc518-win32-x86-stream.exe" -bench

Just make sure of the location of your:
\projects\moowrap.net\dnetc518-win32-x86-stream.exe

The program exits after 10 second so be quick to get the correct core

Now change the settings in Moo! Wrapper preferences & restart Boinc

I tried the stream test to see what GPU core is the best.
Changed it to core 3 that is a bit slower than core 0 in the test but no change in CPU usage.
I'm using GPU-Z as well as Afterburner to see the GPU load

I get the same high CPU load on my 32 bit rigs when I use Catalyst 11.6 >

I will try a lower 64 bit release tomorrow & see if it helps

EDIT

VIVA XP !!!!!!!!

Thanks for the suggestion Brent but the way I have it is that Boinc manager is only the agent doing the queuing of the jobs.
The dnetc....exe app is doing the crunching & the .ini file deciding what should happen
Do I have it wrong?

I started a new server running Win7 64 on a i7.
I noticed in task manager the cpu usage of dnetc518-win32-x86.exe on Cat 11.5> is 25% !
Grading down to cat 11.3 helped a bit and it dropped down to 12% with a 25% spike now & then.
Will there be a fix for the 64bit os. I noticed there is only one application for windows 32 & 64.
Again I had to lift the cpu priority from 4 to 9 in the .ini file & change the multiprocessor % in Boinc manager's preferences to use only 90% processors (7 cores)
Without this all other running cpu tasks starve the GPU to use cpu power to do it's thing & GPU activity drops below 50% causing a wu to run twice as long

Did downgrading to v11.5 or 11.6 solve your CPU hogging problems?

Yes. It did

Might not be since they could hog the CPU from the D.net Client process, which needs it from time to time to feed work for GPU. Could you try to bump the priority to 6 or 9 to see if that helps the D.net Client getting CPU as it needs? (Run Anonymous platform and edit the .ini file line that currently should have priority=4 on it.) Or simply bump the process (for the dnetc518 prefixed exe/process only) priority to Normal or High as a test.

You are right. wcg_bera13_vina... is a CPU hogger.
When 2 is running on a dual proc pc it uses all the CPU time.
Upping the priority of dnetc518...exe in Win task manager help but is only valid for the current running Moo wu

I edited dnetc-1.00.ini and changed the value of processor usage from 4 to 9
This works well and the GPU now gets CPU time again to update

Thanks again for your advice

It is not always possible to baby-sit all my computers
I had several of this before where a task will hang and continue to run in a loop

http://moowrap.net/result.php?resultid=2194028

Is there a way for the program to exit & abort the task after a set timeout was reached?
I wasted 9 hours on this task before I noticed there was no GPU activity.
I had several tasks hanging before after a VPU recover but this one gave no warning

I experienced the same with my 5850 when I switched from 11.6 to 11.8. But the bad thing is that Windows' task manager is showing each WU is really consuming this increased CPU time. So with the actual driver version every Moo! WU is consuming 1 GPU and 1 CPU - in contrast to the 0.05 CPU indicated by BOINC.

That's an issue for me because on my dual core every CPU WU is now running twice as long as before the driver change.

So it's back to 11.6 ...

Same here when I upgraded to 11.7 from 11.5 on a 6950

I'm running primaboinca on the cpu's & the Moo! gpu app was using 50% cpu
Back to 11.5

11.7 a BIG NO-NO

I just received another Beta Test 6.12 wu from WCG

The GPU activity is dropping to 60% when the WCG app is running.
When I suspend the wu GPU activity returns to 99%

I found this on 3 boxes with different cards
The Stderr output files is also funny with no line breaks

I noticed that at the same time WCG Beta 6.12 CPU WUs were running
Could it be a coincidence?

They could have managed it better, thats for sure, and some extended notice over intentions would have stopped a lot of anger from those who just bought cards.

I agree I was a bit harsh because I’m also one of those.
I also wanted to share in the credit feast at PG and made a mistake when I paid a lot of money for a Nvidia a month ago.
For a bit more I could have got a HD6980
Fact is now I’m stuck with it and would like to use it here at Moo.

With PrimeGrid falling apart crunchers will be looking for greener pastures.

Currently my $100 HD5770 performs the same as my $300 GTX570 here at Moo, both completing a “192” wu in about 800 seconds

I replaced an old HD4850 with a HD6950 yesterday using the 11.6 driver set under WinXP 32 SP3.
It's running fine @ 62 DegC overclocked to 864MHz.
It complete a "768: wu in less then 30 minutes average

I had a similar problem with an older Power Color 4750 when DNETC started. The card was already out of warranty & I removed the cooling fan unit. I found that the manufacturer applied only a drop of heat- paste covering only part of the GPU.
I applied CPU paste and it was fine.
The current spike sounds abnormal. I run full OCed cards and the voltage stays the same on all of them under full load
I think your card is faulty

WU 302471 was stuck on 5% for 5 hours on a single card until I aborted it.
First time this happened since I started on Moo

Edit

WU 303025 did the same. No GPU activity. It started running after I shut down & restarted Boinc manager the 2nd time. GPU runs cool on 64 deg.C No other activity on the PC
