SIMAP was a really good project for old and obscure computing platforms as well, they had all kinds of crazy stuff. Sad that they switched over to using a private GPU farm, they obviously got an influx of cash to be able to afford that.

It seems to happen every now and then, and is fixed without notice or warning. Not sure how much "life" is left in this project, doesn't seem to be a lot of admin activity other than kicking the server--but that could also be a periodic script.

One of the reasons I still contribute, is that it's the last known project to support OS X/PowerPC. I know they're not speed demons, but when I'm playing around with them I might as well have them doing something in the background.

Ok, just seems like a lot of credits for a task that completes in 10 minutes or less. Since that host has switched over to MilkyWay tasks, my daily numbers are only about 1/4 of what they were. I know the "standardization" of credit has been a long issue with the various projects.

I'll have to check out that host. Even though the tasks show "Aborted by user" the exit status was "201 (0x000000C9) EXIT_MISSING_COPROC" so I suspect there's something wrong with the interaction of OS/BOINC version, and the old GeForce 320M graphics in that particular MacBook Pro.

They've been going since Dec 7, only on one host--but the only other tasks I've done recently are CPU on other hosts which all get 72 credit.

It has been some time since I've gotten tasks from any projects aside from WUprop on my trusty old PowerBook. Although I don't use it very often anymore, it will generate some tasks every now and then; I will be sure to let others know the work is flowing!

Whatever you did, thanks!

Sorry to see you go from BOINC.

I'm not familiar with how things work over at distributed.net, but I was able to get my password for the stats site so that I could update my info and signature. Is that the same account info that you would use to crunch with their own software?

First of all, you don't need to cross-post; in fact, that sort of thing is generally frowned upon.

Second of all, have you looked at the "Moo! Wrapper" preferences page? That's where you can choose the types of applications are sent to hosts under each set of preferences.

Are the apps for Mac still being developed? I haven't noticed any change to my CUDA Macbook Pro, they still fail, and there is no ATI work available for my iMac. I do, however, appreciate that you still have apps for PowerPC as I still have a trusty PowerMac G5 that is still used for backwards compatibility purposes.

To my knowledge, BOINC doesn't have this capability for GPUs yet, but you might take your question over to the official BOINC forums. There are third-party programs (tthrottle, etc) that can scale or pause BOINC computation to maintain a target/max temperature, but I don't have much experience with them.

Try 'gpuobserver.zip' it is a 'gadget' for your Windows desktop that shows stuff about your gpu.

All it shows for my card is temperature. Looks like it's a pretty old widget, the last post on the developer's site is February 2011. I think that's the problem with my other one as well, it was last updated in January 2013.

The update to Catalyst 14.9 seems to have "fixed" the widget, now it shows temperature, fan speed, GPU load, clock speed and voltage.

I use GPU-Z to see what my GPU utilization is and usually when GPUs are crunching away they hover around 97% for both of my cards. Normally I only watch that my temps are highish so that at least something is crunching. :)

Ah yes, GPU-Z seems to work, though I'd like to have a functional Widget so I can monitor things from the desktop. Moo (ati14) seems to hold the GPU at 99% with short drops to around 80% so I would say you nailed the Tahiti support with that one. I've only had one opencl_ati_101 unit thus far, it ran successfully with run time 3rd of 4 total new units (the others being ati14).

In comparison, Einstein has a very low usage, with only short spikes of 30-80%. Bitcoin Utopia holds around 60%. This is with all 4 CPU cores crunching, if I pause the CPU load then utilization goes up. Good to see this project is making good utilization of my shiny new rig, though I may not be so happy when the utility bill comes.

Now, if I could only get some running on my OS X machines (one CUDA, one ATI)...

So far, I've got one good unit in from my R9 280X and am working on a second... Awesome! This is a fairly new machine to me, and it's the first GPU project that really seems to be taxing my GPU, as the fans kick in to overdrive as compared to Einstein, SETI, etc.

I used to use the Win 7 widget "GPU meter" from Addagadget.com on my old HD4670, though none of their versions seem to work with the new card so I don't know what the utilization is like. The old HD4670 would hover around 90% +/- 5% which was great for me because it didn't produce any UI lag like GPU work from other projects did. I haven't experience any UI lag from any projects with the new card, but I would like to know the utilization--does anyone else have a widget/utility working with their R9 280X? Mine is a SAPPHIRE 100363L Radeon R9 280X 3GB.

I thought the SDK wasn't needed after a certain version of the Catalyst drivers? I didn't have it installed on the 4870, nor do I have it on the R9 280X and it's dong work just fine for other projects.

Bummer, that means I no longer have any host that is capable of GPU crunching for this project. No ATI support for Mac, and the GeForce 320M on my MacBook Pro also errors out 100%.

I haven't quite figured out what will happen to my old HD 4870, but it will probably make its way back onto the project via another machine on my team. Guess the rest will be running Einstein and others for now, hopefully things will change soon.
