Posted 21 Dec 2011 by scottishwebcamslive.com Post: Hi, Thought I'd better put some extra info on the settings of the 5970 as its not at default I have upped the voltage to 1.1 volts to be stable for my 860 meg core clock speed ( can run 900 but with very little performance gain and extra thermal gain due to extra voltage just not worth it ) memory clock is set to 500 which i find runs everything with no problems no matter the project the thermals and currant draws at these settings for one 5970 card are the gpu temps around 84 degrees constant and the VRMS 98 degrees and the currant draw is 56 amps hope those stats help Zydor best regards Ian |

Posted 19 Dec 2011 by scottishwebcamslive.com Post: Hello, yes I shifted the client core from three to two which seems to have it working better although not perfect instead of 14 mins each the WU of the same size are now taking anywhere from 20 to 25 mins each I had the client core at 3 for months using it with one 5970 and with twin 5970's quite happily so no idea what the differance is now plus the STDR output page which used to be about a page long and end with the time of 14 mins ( or 7 mins on the twin 5970's ) now that page you have to scroll down as its around 3 or 4 pages long and makes no sense and ends at 20 to 25 mins for the same work unit so whatever has been changed its not something small On your p.s. I live in a small town called Tillicoultry which is 10 miles north of Stirling I's also known as the gateway to the highlands as it sits at the foot of the Ochil hills, one of which my house is at the base of lol I nearly got ran over on my first trip to America looking the wrong way when crossing the road after coming off the plane lol so I know how embarresed you feel working out you were in the wrong lol best regards Ian |

Posted 18 Dec 2011 by scottishwebcamslive.com Post: Hello, The problem is not fixed no where close actually, for around 4 days now I have had crashing WU and weird timings for the same length of WU If i look at my MSI Afterburner trace the twin cores on my 5970 are way out of sync which instead of working together at 100% there working at an average of 75% and thats a very shaky average as there all over the place every few seconds to back this up GPU-Z currant supply traces show massive ups and downs ever few seconds from 8 amps to 48 amps instead of the constant 48 amps with one card this of course affects my RAC but more important does not look very pretty and even more important all this fluctuating load is putting unnessisary strain on my power supply as it churns out square waves of currect all over the place every few seconds i have rebooted everything and reset the project and downloaded new work but with no change hopefully a fix for everybody is on its way best regards Ian |

Posted 22 Jun 2011 by scottishwebcamslive.com Post: Hi, I changed the pref's to not download any more work and after most of the day missing out every 2nd or third work unit it got to the bottom of the list then started at the top again and working on the work units in order plus the priority mode has gone too so i let it download its quota again and everything seems to be fine i think you may have a point about what you say i just got round it in another way if it happens again i may lower the cashe to lessen the chances of it happening again i also spotted that a work unit had jammed for 46,000 seconds ( 12 hours ) which knocked off around 300,000 credits yesterday which was not funny lets hope that doesnt happen again as it severely dented my RAC's rise :( best regards Ian |

Posted 22 Jun 2011 by scottishwebcamslive.com Post: Hello, Somethings went wrong here my manager has now put the work units i have into high priority for no reason and is picking whichever it feels like instead of going from top to bottom ( completion date ) how do i get rid of the priority mode so the manager can get back to crunching the work with the lowest completion date ? the first of these is due to be be crunched and sent by the 25th so no reason for it thinking its running out of time dont know if this has anything to do with the new 0.05 cpu usage which seems to have happened overnight but the 4 full core usage on the cpu has not changed best regards Ian |

Posted 20 Jun 2011 by scottishwebcamslive.com Post: Hello, thank you for that i do crossfire the cards for ease of use something not very easy to do on dnetc i use core 3 because it was suggested somewhere else on these threads i tried 1, 2, 3, 4, and 7 and the rest cut the cpu usage by half and doubled the length of time to complete the work unit so stuck with 3 i dont know about the benchmarking thing your speaking about but i just changed the numbers and looked at the new times that the change made it will be a couple of days till i get todays 0.05 work units as i have a 3 day bank of work units incase the server goes down over the weekend as sometimes happens on other projects will let you know of any changes to timings and stability after the new work units start being used by my machine best regards Ian |

Posted 19 Jun 2011 by scottishwebcamslive.com Post: hi, thanks for that Teemu I'm only now curious about what moo is using 4 of the 8 multithreads on my CPU at 100% for ? I get that each GPU is being alocated one of its own but if its the GPU doing the work why's my task manager reading 4 of the 8 CPU graphs being used full all the time until the begining and end of each WU ? best regards Ian |

Posted 19 Jun 2011 by scottishwebcamslive.com Post: Hi, oh no a dreaded drivers fiasco lol rather work with hardware than drivers and the like any day of the week :) i sort of get the idea now how this works ( in its own strange way lol ) one thing still puzzles me though, what actually is going on with the high cpu usage ? it must be doing something as it cant be using all the electrical power its using just to not be doing anything ? i thought each of these multithreads 4 of 8 was being used by each of the GPU's at 100% to drive them continuously as if you look at the task manager 4 of the 8 monitors for the cpu usage read 100% constantly if you try and use the other 4 or run any cpu work at all the whole thing slows down or even just stops i tried playing with this core selection part in my preferances but anything other than 3 means the wu take twice as long or they just dont crunch at all so 3 seems to be the ticket i'll just wait to see what happens if or when the cpu setting is lowered to 0.05 if it makes any differance to my crunch times or the rigs stability thanks for the explanations hopefully others might have had some questions answered too by all the above best regards Ian |

Posted 18 Jun 2011 by scottishwebcamslive.com Post: Hi, As you know my field is not really coding or the software in use but more the hardware what i dont understand is if this figure is set way to high far higher than it needs to be then why is moo using 4 of my multithreaded cores 100% of the time to run this project ? running other cpu projects slowes everything way down so these 4 virtual cores must be doing something thats needed all the time ? DNETC does not use any of the cores and has a setting of 0.05 for the cpu's but as anybody knows running DNETC with anything more than one GPU per host makes it completely unstable i'm just wondering if its because of the extra usage of the cpu's ( whatever there working on ) that stops this project being so unstable and perfect for people like myself with more than one GPU in their machine may have this all wrong but you live and learn lol best regards Ian p.s. congrats on getting your twin 5970's to a RAC of 1 million see you their soon with my pair lol |

I'm crunching using one host on this project and as you can see at the time of writing have a RAC of over 300,000 and climbing quickly but you wont find my host on the top hosts pages on this website even though my host is listed in my team with the correct stats is there some problem with the database that i keep vanishing from the top host list ? has anybody else notice their single largest crunching host is not listed either ? best regards Ian |
