I'm migrating our primary server to a new host that has a newer OS and more modern hardware. It's also closer to our DB server so any delays between the servers should be minimized. To top this all off, it's also cheaper.

As things are changing there might be one or more disruptions on services but I'll keep an eye on things and don't expect any loss of work as soon as dust settles. No action is needed on your part unless you are hard coding our server IP address somewhere like your firewall rules. In which case you should prepare to change the address and think about using name (moowrap.net) instead of hard coding an IP.

I'll let you know when I'm done. Thank you and happy crunching with a snappier server!

Ni!

Uploads seem to be...shall we say...a bit off....or maybe I just need to restart the BOINC client to pick up the new IP address....

Whoever have stalled uploads...

1. Shut down boinc client.
2. Open client_state.xml
3. Replace
<upload_url>http://bcserv02.moowrap.net/cgi-bin/file_upload_handler</upload_url>
with
<upload_url>http://moowrap.net/cgi/file_upload_handler</upload_url>
4. Start boinc and try upload again

Sorry, didn't work for me - this is what I got after restarting and trying the uploads again:
8/27/2014 5:54:47 PM | Moo! Wrapper | [error] Error reported by file upload server: File uploads are temporarily disabled.
8/27/2014 5:54:47 PM | Moo! Wrapper | Temporarily failed upload of dnetc_r72_1409079048_3_192_0_0: transient upload error

Guess I'll try again in a few hours...

Quick update - waited an hour, no luck. Came back 2 hours later, and uploads complete, new work running...

Hi,

All the important bits should be now operational on the new host and work should be flowing again. Mentioned upload problems are a known side effect of things that happened during migration and also because file uploads were disabled to make sure all the files got transferred.

If you still have problems, please first try to restart your BOINC Client so that it picks up the new IP of the server. This seems to especially affect BOINC Client version 5.x and 6.x that won't always redo DNS queries when they should.

The old server is still alive but it's services are disabled (it's in "maintenance mode") and especially any uploads to it will be denied with the "File uploads are temporarily disabled." message.

Hi,

I've enabled a proxy on the old server to pass through any scheduler, file upload and download request to our new server. This helps to get the some of the old BOINC Clients to work in the hope they will get a restart to pickup the DNS change in coming few days the old server is still with us. After that they will unfortunately start failing.
